A bit about Stansted Mountfitchet

Stansted Mountfitchet is the village after which the Airport was named, situated in Essex very close to Hertfordshire it is well placed being only 35 miles north of London with good links into the City and also further North to Cambridge.

It has it’s own railway station and is close to the M11 motorway which goes straight into London, Harlow, Cambridge, Braintree and Chelmsford are all close and so you can see it’s close proximity to Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

Stansted Airport itself is just 2 miles from the village where you will find residing many of the Airports and Airlines staff. Regardless of it’s proximity to the Airport it has a lovely village feel still and there are lots of independent small shops, restaurants and cafes as well as a number of schools to service the local community.

Originally a Saxon development there still remains part of a Norman castle which is open to the public and believed to have begun construction in 1066. It is well known in the local area for Mountfitchet castle, but also for the Windmill that stands proud to this day. There is also a toy museum which is worth a visit.

The Airport started life in the Second World War after an airfield was constructed near the village, of course this was eventually developed as a commercial airport and today is the 4th largest airport in the UK. There are ongoing battles to expand Stansted Airport and increase it’s capacity with the belief that this will increase the local and national economies.

With the Airport came a plethora of Hotels and restaurants, additional housing and amenities to service Stansted Airport and the people that work there and use it for travel. In terms of the future? We will have to wait and see and watch from the sidelines as the fight for and against expansion continues.
