Stansted Mountfitchet Railway Station

Though Stansted is better known for its third busiest airport in the UK, serving more than 160 destinations across 35 countries, and with over 23 million passengers passing through, Stansted also has its own railway station, Stansted Mountfitchet, which offers quick and comfortable journeys to London and Cambridge.

The Stansted Mountfitchet Railway Station serves the small town which owes its earlier importance to the castle built here by the Mountfitchet family. If you are planning to visit Stansted through train, you can easily reach in a 30 minutes train journey from central London. Through road, it would take about an hours drive from Cambridge and Oxford.

Stansted Mountfitchet Railway Station serves the entire village of Stansted Mountfitchet in Essex, England. The station and all the trains serving it are operated by the National Express East Anglia.

Way back, the station was originally known simply as Stansted. During 1990, the station was renamed to Stansted Mountfitchet Railway Station to avoid potential confusion with the new station that was planned nearby Stansted Airport.

The railway station has services to London Liverpool Street, Stratford, Cambridge and Stansted Airport and all services are operated by Class 317 EMU. On rare occasions, the station operates a Class 315 EMU.

The original station building of 1845 still boasts as the main ticket office.

Not just the Stansted Mountfitchet railway station, but even the car park has a long story. During the past, when the railways carried local freight traffic, the current station car park on the left of the station was occupied by goods train sidings.
