What Makes a Great Hotel?

Booking a hotel is often a matter of convenience, proximity to essential services, or recommendations from friends. When looking for a suitable hotel, finding the best place possible often involves researching the area, or viewing the pictures on the website to see if it would suit. However, when trying to find a really great hotel, there are some things which a potential guest can try in order to find the perfect place for them to stay:

  1. Location. A really great hotel has a fantastic location. Staying close to local tourist destinations, or in proximity to an airport or train station for easy transport, is vital to a great hotel. If it is not very near these locations, then great hotels can offer transfer services or reduced-price taxis in order to allow their guests to travel.
  2. Amenities. In addition to proximity to tourist locations, the great hotel should also have attractions of its own. It’s often the little stuff that turns an average hotel into a great one: free Wi-Fi, TVs with HD viewing, coffee and tea making facilities, maybe a gym. Most modern hotels also offer something for the kids, such as a play area or TV room.
  3. Attractions. A hotel can be an attraction in its own right. There are some very famous hotels which are, partly, visited for themselves, as well as for their amenities or proximity to other things. A great hotel usually has its own personality. They don’t even have to be large – there is a modern trend for bespoke hotels which appeal to guests from all over the world.
  4. Service. The most important aspect of any great hotel is the service. This is perhaps the most essential element of any stay, and includes friendly staff who are always willing to help guests with any needs. The staff should be highly trained, polite, and attentive to all guests.
