If you have some spare time between flights or you are looking for somewhere to visit while you are in the Stansted area why not call in to Audley End House located just outside Saffron Walden in Essex about 20 minutes away from Stansted.

Audley End House was once owned by Henry VIII and was then known as Walden Abbey. It has entertained royalty and seen many changes in its lifetime with new wings added on then later removed.

Audley End House is only a third of its original size with many parts gradually demolished over the years, but the main house structure has remained mostly structurally unaltered.

If you go down to the woods today you can be sure of a big surprise, at Hatfield Forest. Autumn or harvest time is a fantastic time of year to be heading to the forest to see all the magnificent colours this season has on offer.

Hatfield Forest is a vast ancient forest not far from Stansted and is a wonderful place to wander, to let the children run around, to go for a run,or to get back in touch with nature.

Hatfield Forest lies immediately south of Stansted Airport, it has trees that are over 1200 years old, along with a lake for fishing, boats to row around on the lake in summer along with bikes to hire.

Stansted Airport has beaten its record for the most airplanes to be parked up at one time with the opening of the 2012 Olympic Games. The last record stood at 156 airplanes, this was when the Champions League finals were held at Wembley in 2011; however the Olympics Games has seen 165 airplanes parked up overnight. A lot of these being private jets of various sizes making up these numbers.

World leaders, government officials and celebrities arrived for the opening of the games. They were all looked after by the airports private aviation specialists who could easily accommodate this number of planes but there was still a lot of skill and professionalism involved to sort out the logistics of where to park them all, however the staff rose to the challenge and achieved this with no problems.

Stansted Airport Up for Sale

Competition Commission (CC) has made a ruling to the BAA that Stansted should be sold along with Gatwick and one of its Scottish airports.

After seven legal challenges by BAA over the last three years, the company has decided it won’t appeal this latest ruling from the Supreme Court.

Stansted is the UK’s fourth busiest airport with its main airlines being the low-cost liners offering great deals to travel to around 150 destinations in 32 countries. With approximately 133,500 flights passing through Stansted every year and approximately 17.5m passengers it no wonder Stansted is so busy.

Olympic Torch Passes through Stansted

Spectators came out in their hundreds on Saturday 7th July to watch the Olympic Torch make its way through Stansted. It was a proud moment for all who attended, with many waving flags or wearing the England colours to celebrate this amazing event. Even the rain showers could not dampen the spirits of those in attendance.

The torch was carried by three different bearers through the town and was a proud moment for all of them. They were picked from many hundreds of deserving nominees and was a once in a life time experience for them.
